About Lofi, a project by Space Encounters Office for Architecture
Lofi is one of the most upfront nightclubs in Amsterdam and is located on the site of a former bus garage. The design for Lofi consist of a sustainable spatial vision to extend the Warehouse and remodel the club’s Courtyard in a circular and playful way. Animals and humans are primarily playful beings and play is a primary generator of culture, according to Dutch philosopher Johan Huizinga. Play has a long and deeply rooted cultural tradition in Dutch art in which play serves as a leitmotif.
In the same spirit the vision for Lofi is a playground that is assembled of industrially produced ready-mades. This playful explorative landscape is designed to host a wide range of events ranging from indoor raves to intimate community gatherings as well as business events, film screenings, fairs and company presentations. With the design of interventions in both the interior and on the terrain as the extension of the club and courtyard stage, the border between inside and outside dissipates to experience nature and the elements throughout the club. This makes it a place where ecological and social sustainability come together, where nature and people blossom.
