Hidden garden villa

Through a loophole in the zoning plan of their municipality, our clients had the unique chance of realising a complete second house in their own back garden. The zoning plan also allowed for a building height of twelve meters. Given the privacy of the surrounding gardens, building this height would have been unethical though.

The building volume had to be spread out over the already small plot, disturbing the balance between building and garden. This is partially solved by the parallelogram shape of the house, which allows the garden to flow around the house. By putting part of the house slightly underground, this problem is further nullified.

The choice in facade material completes the integration of the villa into the landscape: the hollow concrete bricks will be filled with earth and seeds, allowing nature to take over.
